The Power Of Habit

Let us briefly explore my opinion on the power of habit.

“The more you do a thing, the better you get at it.”

Doing a thing consistently, reduces resistance, minimizes complacency/nonchalance and increases interest, towards that particular thing.

An understanding of this, is a powerful nugget on the power of habit.

I came across a beautiful quote on habit today. You can click Goal Achievement Quote – Oct. 22, 2012 to view it.

When a desire for something grows and there is no resistance to go for it, it becomes almost inevitable to go for it.

Habit is one thing that eliminates indifference, by reducing resistance and increasing interest.

Habits are powerful!

Habit is like a double edged sword; it has the power to ruin or to make.

We must pay attention to our habits, if we are concerned about our destinations.

Habits influence behaviour, behaviour determines character, character forms personality and personality defines or describes us.

We must not underestimate the power of habit.

The things we consistently do, will consistently grow.

An adage in my dialect, when interpreted to English, says; “remove the monkey’s hand from your soup, before it becomes human hands.”

In other words; take out the bad traits from your habits, before they become a part of you.

In physics, we were taught that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can be transformed from one form to another.

Behaviour seems to have the same feature, and habit seems to be the medium of it’s transformation.

The nature of a thing is determined by design.
Our design configures us to differentiate good from bad, better from good, and best from better. It is up to us to choose and to manifest our choices.
For lack of understanding, we often make choices but perfom practices that would not translate to the manifestation of our choices.

Whatever you will become, you are already becoming. Therefore, cultivate the appropriate habit for your prefered destination.

About teeceecounsel

Who am I really? Can that be defined yet? Probably by the time I'm long gone and all the pieces of my activities are compiled and analysed then you can know what you want to know about me. Meanwhile, I write. Not because I love writing but because I love people. I love to care and love to share. I'm a deep thinker and I love to believe in the impossible. The ideal is attainable and a shot at it must be given. Don't say 'It won't work' rather ask 'how will it work? Nobody is ever doomed unless they made the choice. To resist good and to adopt evil is already doom. To loose hope is to choose doom but to believe that every step is a passing phase leading towards your hope is to choose progress. I may go on and on but my posts say it all. I don't force you to agree, I only say enjoy!

Very interesting ideas here. I’d go further and say that good habits and skills should be cultivated to the point where they become instinctual – i.e. performed without thinking and without effort. In this way we can live better by living more instinctually and more spontaneously.

    • I totally agree with you on this. We should practice the things that will enhance us, to a point that they become a part of us. When we can comfortably handle certain situations, even without having to think, that is truly when we have developed to the point of being instinctive. Good habits are good; they create a default goodness! 🙂
