Unity Versus Uniformity

Unity has to do with agreement, singleness and oneness.
With unity many different things can form one thing.
I choose to call that “diversity in unity”.

Uniformity on the other hand deals with sameness and consistency. Neither variation nor change is welcome. The same always or everywhere.

We live in a world where we have to interact with both the same things and different things.

After day comes night; it never changes!
After one season comes another and the same keeps repeating throughout the ages.
On the other hand, water freezes into solid blocks when the temperature is extremely cold.
It melts into liquid and even evaporates into gas.
It condenses back to liquid and is released back to the ground in the form of rain when the atmosphere is saturated.
The same thing takes different forms but works consistently towards achieving one goal.

Life often offers us with opportunities that only creativity, flexibility and dynamisity can harness.
At some other times, we are faced with opportunities that only consistency, repetition and rigidity can grasp.

Everybody is made unique; each having varying opinions and choices from us even concerning the same matter.
Our individual differences can always have a role to play in bringing certain ideas to fruition.
The fact that we are different does not mean that we cannot do certain things together.
Certain qualities that we often disagree with in others have vital roles to play in making certain things work.
It takes a high level of understanding and discernment to fix different temperaments and view points in their right position for efficiency and productivity.

A steering wheel may not look like a gear stick but without them a car is incomplete.
The grasses don’t have the same color as the sun but without the sun, there will be no photosynthesis.

“Variety” they say, “is the spice of life.” Differences don’t necessarily mean disunity neither does uniformity mean unity.
Attending the same school as your parents or putting on the same kind of clothes with your peers neither mean agreement with them nor unity.
Necessity is said to be the mother of invention, so any time an issue comes up; just look around to see how the different available human and material resources can play a part in bringing solution.

Uniformity is beautiful and should have it’s place where necessary.
Unity is very necessary where everyone is unique and has a different composition from the rest.
With wisdom, you’ll know how best to hit your target with what you’ve got on ground; whether or not they are the same.

About teeceecounsel

Who am I really? Can that be defined yet? Probably by the time I'm long gone and all the pieces of my activities are compiled and analysed then you can know what you want to know about me. Meanwhile, I write. Not because I love writing but because I love people. I love to care and love to share. I'm a deep thinker and I love to believe in the impossible. The ideal is attainable and a shot at it must be given. Don't say 'It won't work' rather ask 'how will it work? Nobody is ever doomed unless they made the choice. To resist good and to adopt evil is already doom. To loose hope is to choose doom but to believe that every step is a passing phase leading towards your hope is to choose progress. I may go on and on but my posts say it all. I don't force you to agree, I only say enjoy!

Hi teeceecounsel, I felt your message was good in reference to our uniqueness and in some things as you said we can have diversity, but in regard to God’s Truth this is not so, The Holy Spirit does not say one thing to one person and something differant to another when it contradicts, there is only one Truth and it is eternal.

God tells us not even to agree to disagree on His Truth which covers many things, because it ends in disunity and God is always a God of Unity, as He is the Godhead or Trinity as Thy are called today, 3 in complete Unity, The three become one or God’s three ways of being God.

If we have differences regarding His Truth we are to bring them to Him and He will show who is in error, through His inspired written word by the empowering of The Holy Spirit . Jesus is our only Teacher and He will teach us all things, and yes at times through the gifting of others.

    • Beautiful!
I’m glad you took out time to express your view and you are right.
Take a closer look at my perspective. God is the perfect example of Unity; Father, Son and Spirit being one.
Man often insists on working with people that look like them, think like them, sound like them, agree with them in every respect, etc. That is uniformity. I love to mix up with people and solve practical problems and I also have friends that love to stay alone all day and will not mix up.
I understand their uniqueness and I make good use of the strength they have.
I have seen people reject others and disagree with others on a certain idea, whereas, their various points would have worked together to take that idea to a higher level.
      See this portion of scripture:
“The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.” (Genesis 11:6).
This is how powerful unity can be!
It’s not about the patterns and the traditions, it’s about the understanding and the agreement.
As regards faith and truth; certain things are absolute and should not be altered. The kind of task determines the variety of characters and values that can be tolerated.
Certain opinions are not welcome in certain matters and must not be given a chance if the idea must stand. So choose carefully.
Thanks much Anne, for sharing. I sincerely appreciate. Regards to Ron.

Thank you teeceecounsel you were very wise in your summary of my comment and yes God never goes against our free will it is our choice, we can choose Him or the things that have no future that this world offers.

In the Body of Christ we are brought to Unity by our submission, first to God then to each other, not because we have to but because we want to, when we value others even being willing to serve them, then we know and are blessed by True Unity.

Thank you again teeceecounsel you are a blessing that we give thanks for,.

  2. I so much love the way my friend summarised this into a quote.
You can see more of such quotes on his blog.
    The True Nature Of Unity
Unity is not, “we are all doing the same thing”. Unity is, “we are all working towards the same thing”; usually different activities geared towards a singular goal -Johnson Chukwuma.

Hi teeceecounsel , yes we know Johnson well and are also blessed by his messages, and very True we all have differant giftings as well as being unique in how we share what we have been given. I’m sure teeceecounsel creating a Power Point like I do is not how you express your heart focus but what we believe needs to be the ( see Scripture below ) we are to be of the same mind, it’s the only way we can be in Unity, in having the mind of Christ, we have compleatness.

Phillipians 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

2Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in Peace; and the God of Love and Peace shall be with you.

Christian Love from us both Anne.
